In June 2025, I visited the beautiful country of Nepal to attend the graduation ceremony of our dear student, Dr. Karma Sherpa. This trip was not just a celebration of his remarkable achievement, but also as always, broadened my horizons and left me with many unforgettable memories.
The day of the graduation ceremony arrived, June 13th and with it came anticipation and joy. The event was held on the Kathmandu University campus, Lalitpur; a huge recently erected venue adorned with vibrant fabrics and floral decorations awaited our arrival. For the 1,100 graduates gathered from four faculties, family, friends, and members of the community gathered to celebrate their achievement.
Watching Karma walk across the stage in his academic gown, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and I have to say, emotion. His dedication and hard work had finally paid off, and it was a moment of triumph not just for him but for everyone who had supported him along the way.
The ceremony was filled with inspiring speeches from dignitaries, who emphasised the importance of education and its role in shaping the future of Nepal.
Later that day, during dinner, Karma’s speech highlighting his journey, aspirations, and gratitude, left a lasting impact on all present. Tears of happiness (mostly mine) were shed, and I couldn’t help but feel honoured to be a part of such a significant milestone in his life and that of our own CFENC - The Charitable Foundation for the Education of Nepalese Children.
As my trip came to an end, I reflected on the bonds I have formed over the years, and the lessons I had learned throughout my journey. Nepal is not just a land of stunning landscapes but a country filled with courageous and resilient people. Dr. Karma’s graduation was a celebration of hope and determination, a testament to the power of education in transforming lives.
My visit to Nepal was more than just attending a graduation; it was a journey of discovery, new and old friendships, and a cultural exchange that I will cherish forever.
I returned home with lots of wonderful memories, eager to share stories and inspire others to explore the wonders of this incredible country and its people; and to hopefully encourage others to support of our work in Nepal.
